15% of species are currently threatened, according to the 2019 State of Nature report, published by the National Biodiversity Network (NBN). On average, UK species have declined by 13% since 1970. This is down to – among other causes – climate change, unsustainable fishing practices, and the destruction of wild areas to make way for farmland.
